Medicine and Music

We didn't get the 1.5m of snow that Jenn's folks in London did, but we did get a fair amount - enough to change the look of the city a lot!

This weekend, we took a walk around (and through) Royal Victoria Hospital, built in 1893. Being built on the edge of Mont Royal means that some of the access roads are somewhat circuitous, resulting in convoluted traffic routing, such as this:
The original financial contributors were a couple of Scottish businessmen - do you think they may have had some design input? Looks very Scotch manor-like to me.

I think this was the stable...

Saturday evening, we went to see Handel's Messiah, performed by the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal and Chorus, at the Notre Dame Basilica. A suitably awe-inspiring place for such a performance!

Our seats may not have been the best in the house, but we had a lot to look at, watching CBC cameramen recording the event (to be broadcast Christmas eve at midnight), and we were just above the stage, able to hear the performance perfectly.

I have a photo of the spot in Dublin where Handel first performed Messiah. I sure love the history of Montreal! It's beautiful!!
