VanDusen Garden

Today we spent a couple of hours at VanDusen Botanical Gardens, not far from our place.

Lots of the plants and flowers are coming into their summer splendour, but it was the water lilies that stole the show!

Some of the flowers were pretty fascinating to see in their "pre-blossom" stage.

(I look a bit nervous - what if these are the carnivorous type of plants?!?)

This guy was having a hard time swallowing the fish he just caught - we didn't stick around long, in case the Heimlich maneuver was needed.

There's lots of sculpture scattered throughout the gardens.

This one is pretty neat - braided sticks of willow.

 VERY detailed piece!

After the gardens, we made a quick trip to Granville Island for some vegetables, where we saw this beautiful kale.
