Now THAT was a weekend!

My brother Jim is turning 40 this weekend, and his wife Sabrina was throwing him a surprise party, a week earlier than he was anticipating. I decided to join in the surprise, and flew out for a few days. As Ellen mentioned on her blog, we packed a lot of quality fun into the 4 days I was there!

Friday night, my two sisters and their families took me skating on the Red River, where there is a maintained path on the ice, with a number of 'warming huts' strung along the way. Here's my niece Neve sheltered in one of the structures. It was a beautiful, cold winter night, and I really enjoyed getting back on skates after something like 25 years!!!

On Saturday I went along with brother-in-law Dale to drop off Neve at her gymnastics class, then to see my nephew Spencer at his fencing class - so cool to to see him in action!

Saturday night was the party, which was an 80's theme - and Jim was totally surprised - Sabrina managed to keep the secret perfectly! I tried to go for the 'Miami Vice' look. Jim knew there was a party, but thought it was this coming weekend, and had picked out his outfit, which Sabrina snuck into the car before they left.

It was a great party, with lots of fun and dancing - Jim has a great bunch of friends!  Lots of great 80's outfits!  But I'm not going to post the photo of one of his friends who shaved Jim's name in his belly hair...  I'll just leave that to your imagination!

The next day was my niece Bella's birthday party -  also planned by Sabrina (who will be sleeping solid for the next two weeks, I think!!).  My niece Bailey stepped up with one of her famous cakes - I got to see her in action, making it!

This party was a princess theme, with even the (slightly sad looking, on account of recent warm weather) snow Princess getting into the spirit!

I had some great fun playing in the snow with Bella!  (click on picture to play video)   How's that for a scream?!?

Sweet little Lexie!

(Bella took this one of me)

As always, it was such a pleasure to spend time with family, and I'm so glad I made the trip!!
