Kayaking (& swimming)

To follow up on last week's kayak testing, my friend and I went out for a few hours today.  In contrast to the stretch of perfectly gorgeous weather we've been having, today turned out overcast.  It rained a bit a couple of times, but the worst of it was when we heard thunder.  About halfway through our 3 hours, we abandoned our plan to go attempt some rolls at a beach that's across the inlet from where we rented the kayaks, and instead crossed back so we could leave if we had to.  After a couple of rumbles of thunder, there was no more, so we poked around on that side of the inlet for a bit.

On our first crossing, we were surfing on the wakes of some large boats that passed by, which was quite exhilarating, but I forgot to concentrate enough, and lost my balance, tipping upside down, and in the process, letting go of my paddle (rule #1 is never let go of your paddle!!).  That gave me even less chance of righting myself, so I had to struggle out of the boat, and after recovering my paddle, my camera (in a waterproof bag), and the waterproof bag with my wallet and phone in it (but not my cap), I climbed back into the boat, pumped out the few inches of water in it, and carried on.  I think I'm still draining some salt water from my sinuses, though.

Some of the docks at each and every waterfront home are quite extensive!

The kelp and mussels below the high-tide level make for some neat patterns.

Moss growing on a floating log breakwater.

It was another fun day out on the water, sunshine or not!  At least I didn't need sunscreen!
