To say we've been enjoying our winter here would be an understatement. Every time it snows, we're like kids again, barely able to sleep, anticipating canceled school, and getting out on our sleds, sliding down the street! And then we remember we're not in grade school anymore...
But we have gone out for walks in the fresh snow many times, and we've enjoyed a couple of short blizzards this past week. Jenn got out early one morning in the blowing snow, and got "the" shot that she's been looking for all winter. And I enjoyed my walk to the Metro (subway) after another 4" of snow, before the (very efficient) snow-clearing crew were able to clear the sidewalks.

(This is the office of the fashion designer Micheal Kors, just a few buildings down from our place. See Jenn? I finally remembered his name!)

On one of our evening walkabouts, we observed (carefully) some of the snow clearing operation. It's like a military campaign here. I quite enjoy seeing the whole procedure - a small sidewalk crawler plow (going a hundred miles an hour, it seems) on each side, a midsize loader (with a blade instead of bucket) moving the snow a little further, then a big grader making a ridge along the middle of the street, then a self-powered snow-blower mounted on the front of a big loader, blowing into a truck driving alongside, then a couple of loaders mopping up any leftovers. There should be a tv channel dedicated to showing it 24/7.
A couple of weeks ago, our office finally moved to the job-site (original date was supposed to be last August), and for the next 3 - 4 years, all our work will be done here. They've built up quite a trailer-park, stacking them up two stories high. But I must say, it's a lot better than we had been anticipating/fearing. They're mostly nice and new, and there's pretty good light.

My desk, for the next 3 1/2 months. We're working on improving the decor, starting with putting up some of our drawings.

It is very exciting (and somewhat intimidating) seeing all the work going on, stuff that we've so far only seen as lines on our screen! There are 7 tower cranes (soon to be 10, apparently the most ever on one construction site in Quebec).

For now, we are being transported from the Metro station at the northwest corner of the site, in a small school-bus (normally used for kindergarten kids, judging by the size of the seats), around the south side of the site to our office complex on the east side - gives us a good chance to study the apparent chaos of the construction site. We will, in a few weeks (or months), have a pathway from the station, around the north edge of the site (where the excavator is digging), so that we don't have to rely on the bus. That will be nice, as some mornings, the bus is completely packed full, with two people per seat. Did I mention the seats are small?

I think your employer was just wanting you to get the full "grade school" effect by having you ride the bus after your sledding on a snow day.
Snow removal crews are very intense. Do NOT get in their way. One night on our way home from a friends' house they were ploughing on Stafford and there were at least 7 or 8 front end loaders/etc out and they had actually blocked in a lane of cars that we lucked out to pass. The very unhappy people stuck in the snow banked lane (at least 8 to 10 vehicles) included a city bus and a police car.

The snow clearing effort is a daily routine for us in Wpg for at least 5 months of the year!!! Glad you're enjoying it. The novelty has worn off! Cool pics though. The construction site looks crazy!! Jim
my reaction to snow is somewhat different then yours ,its more ,yuk,i prefer warm Florida sun! Your office buildings look a lot better than what i envisioned when you first mentioned your move.I'm glad i'm not in charge of the construction. That looks like it could take awhile.B&A
