Cathedral of Hockey

Saturday's  excursion was a tour of the Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens, and the Canadiens Temple de la Renommée (Hall of Fame).

It was a fascinating tour, with so much history!  Our tour guide was excellent, and had a ton of information!

Maurice (The Rocket) Richard's jersey, from the '57 - '58 season.

The Canadiens' dressing room.  Seemed very small, and would seem even smaller when filled with a bunch of big hockey players!  And yet, nobody is allowed to tread on the logos at center-ice.

One of the coolest stops on the tour was the media gallery, way up in the rafters, from where the tv and radio announcers and newspaper reporters get to watch.

The view from up there is spectacular, and allows you to see the whole ice surface at once.  Might be easier to get a seat up there than down below - season's tickets have a 5 year waiting list!

When we left the Bell Centre, we made a stop at the old Forum.
The Bell Centre was built in 1996.  Before that, the Montreal Forum was the place to be.  After the Canadiens left, it was turned into an entertainment complex and shopping centre, with movie theaters, a climbing gym, a comedy club, and restaurants and shops.  They've saved some of the seating from the old forum, and recreated part of the bleachers.  Pretty cool throwback to the old history of the place.

My dad is a HUGE Habs fan. We were going to buy him one of the Forum seats but they were $1500 and then we had to pay shipping...yikes. My dad did get to sit in one of the old Forum seats at Guy Lafleur's restaurant when they were on on holidays there.
