Stone and Surf

On Friday, we went for a drive south of town, to see Fort Chambly, an old stone fort.  Sadly, contrary to all the info we could find, the fort was closed on Good Friday.

We were not about to try breaking in, so instead we enjoyed a walk along the river, seeing the rapids and dam.

There were some guys river surfing, on the standing waves that are formed in the rapids.  Pretty amazing to see them standing in place, riding along on the water that's passing underneath them!

Today we went exploring in a part of Montreal that we hadn't seen yet - Le Village.
Along the way, we passed Place Viger, the former CP hotel and train station, built in 1898.

Nearby is the Centre d'archives de Montréal.

I snuck a shot inside before the eagle-eyed security guard stopped me.

I can't see the surfing pic - it's just a white square.

What is the former CP hotel/train station now?

Try http://youtu.be/7EsfwZxTOOs instead.

The hotel/train station is empty right now, but talk is that they'll use it as a tourism school. But that talk has been going on for the last 20 years, so don't put in an application quite yet.
