Not the most delicate thing, but...

For my birthday a couple of weeks ago, Jenn got me a gift certificate for a 'try your hand at glassmaking' session at a studio on Granville Island.  They walk you through the process of making a flower out of glass.  I went yesterday, and it was a very interesting experience!!

Using a blowing tube, the glass artist picks up the wad of molten glass from the furnace, and does all the handling of it, while I sit at the workbench, and do the shaping.

To shape the flower, you use heavy-duty tweezers to grab a pinch of glass, and pull it to form the 'petals'.

I think it turned out a bit chunky and heavy, but it was good fun!  Might have to try it again, now that I know a bit more about how the glass behaves.
