They're not all winners

Not every tour that we take turns out to be all that we'd expected - this weekend's tours of the main library and of the Port of Vancouver were pretty much duds.  The guides were not as knowledgeable as most tours, and the subject matter was not quite what we had been led to believe.

The library tour was billed as an Architectural Tour, and we thought we'd get a lot of insight into the design and construction of the building. There was some of that, but mostly it was about how the library is run, where the books are sorted (that part was cool), and how they're reorganizing a lot of the books to more closely align with the Dewey Decimal System.  We definitely did learn some stuff, but it could have been better.

Luckily, the building speaks for itself quite a bit, and provides some very interesting angle and perspectives.

The supposed tour of the Port today was more of a bust than the library - the guide was a young intern on a summer term, and was more focused on Vancouver tourism than on the Port, as such.  We walked a short distance along Canada Place, and she pointed out other places where we should go visit.  Oh well.

After lunch on Granville Island, I went to restock on blackberries at my favourite free picking spot, then took the long way home, around some of the waterfront.

This park is hugely popular with the kite-flying crowd, and you'll always find some here.

This barge is a pretty interesting looking piece of art - it'll be open to the public for visits in a couple of weeks - I'll try to get some closer shots then!

Other old boats docked nearby.
