May Flowers

Spring is at its best right now, with all the beauty and fragrance of the new blossoms - what better time of year could there be!?!
Magnolias, across the street from our place.

Tulips on Sherbrooke Street.

Apple blossoms in an old orchard beside the Centre for Architecture.

This is the clock tower at the old port, which we have yet to visit - the whole pier that it's on has been under construction since we got here.  But they say it's 'almost done'.
Jenn had some friends visiting from Ontario for the long weekend, so I was out on my bike for a few hours on Saturday.  My route took me down to the old port, and then east along the water-front for about 7 miles, on some nice bike paths.  The bike routes around Montreal are plentiful and very well done - a real pleasure to use!

 Cherry blossoms at CBC Radio-Canada.

A former fire hall, built in 1912, influenced by some of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright's work.

One of the nicest paths I've come across - 2 miles of path, alongside a busy street but separated by trees and grass.  Trees that had been cut down over time were carved into totem poles or Easter Island type faces.

On Sunday, I went to an exhibit showing the works of Leonardo da Vinci, artist, engineer, architect (and a whole bunch of other things).  There were paintings and sketches either done by him or other artists influenced by him, and a bunch of models by an Italian engineer, based on da Vinci's sketches of his inventions.  Quite fascinating!

Today, after sending Jenn's friends off on the train, we spent a few hours poking around Université de Montréal, on the north slope of Mont Royal.

It's only the construction that has stopped us from visiting that one last place!
