car2go

These cute little cars are part of a new car-sharing system in town - they've got them parked all over the place, and when you need one, you scan your membership card over a sensor in the windshield, drive to wherever you need to go, park it, and scan out. Very convenient for impromptue needs! This one is a block from my office (seen in the background), and it's nice to have them available if it's pouring rain and I haven't bothered packing my rain gear!

I love the fact that you could park 3 of them in the length of that pickup truck.

Winnipeg has this too! It's called Peg City Cars. I don't know if it's as fancy where you can scan the windshield or how it works but there is one parked at the Safeway I go to at River and Osborne. Way cool idea.

Although, when you need a vehicle and don't have one it's usually a truck you need to haul furniture home from Rona or something...

I'm afraid you couldn't haul much furniture in a car2go! A doll-house for Neve's Barbies might just fit.
That's great that Winnipeg has a car coop now! That system is exactly like the other one we have in Vancouver, where you take a car from a specific location, and return it there when you're done. We've been using it for 10(!!) years now, and love it! I see that Winnipeg only has 3 cars so far, but I'm sure they'll grow as they catch on.

Oh, the coop here, called "modo", has a variety of vehicles, including small hatch-backs, wagons, minivans, trucks, Prius, Minis, and the Nissan Leaf electric. So as they grow, I'm sure Peg will get a truck as well.
